Andrew Powell, Analyst

Andrew Powell began his professional career in 1988 as a claims processor and later a Customer Service Supervisor for John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co. He is currently a career Lieutenant at the Dracut Fire Department. Mr. Powell joined Boston Benefit Partners, LLC in December of 2005 as a part-time analyst, providing health plan benefit consulting to public sector clients. He is the past chairman of the Dracut Insurance Advisory Committee. Mr. Powell serves as chairman of the Dracut Public Employee Committee which was formed under M.G.L. 32b, Section 19, Coalition Bargaining. He participates in many local union and community projects and is a member of the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts' Pension and Healthcare Committee.

Mr. Powell's responsibilities include:

• Research of legal, legislative, administrative, and financial issues in response to client inquiries.
• Analysis of carrier bid specifications, which includes, but is not limited to, gathering and analyzing client and plan data, fielding carrier questions, developing financial spreadsheets, and developing detailed plan design comparisons.
• Participating in the development and presentation of large municipal employee training programs on the issues of health care.
• Support of the client team by researching topics such as the impact of rising health care costs on the municipal sector.

Mr. Powell is a member of the International Association of Firefighters, Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts, and AFL-CIO.
